Allow me to introduce Miss Helene Kaplan. The newest member of The Blane Project, portraits of men and women whom served in WWII. I met Helene while giving a talk about the project in Boulder Colorado. Helene is quite a character. Serving in England during the war, She was a physical therapist for troops recovering in London. "Well I had a pulse and that's all they wanted" she told me (more than once). Although Helene has lived in Colorado for quite some time she had a thick north eastern accent. When I asked where was she really from she smiled and said, " another planet... you know, Vermont".
She was quick to be a part of the project. Standing in front of the camera she just looked straight at me and said, "well what should I do?" That's it Helene you've already done it. I thanked Helene for her service and packed up my gear. She stayed and talked with me the whole time. Telling me her favorite stories ... more than once.
If you know a WWII vet that would like to be a part of the project please contact me.
